# Official Skill and agent workflows

URL: https://www.audiobits.dev/docs/agents

Give a coding agent AudioBits guidance for integration, original recipes, and interactive experiences.

The official **AudioBits Skill** teaches a coding agent how to integrate browser
audio, design original sounds, and adapt editable catalog source. It covers
public runtime APIs, recipe validation, gesture activation, live controls, and
resource ownership. It is one Skill with guidance for different task depths.

The Skill supplies instructions and references. Your application still uses the
`audiobits` npm runtime and, when useful, [installed catalog source](https://www.audiobits.dev/docs/catalog).
It does not play audio by itself or add a framework adapter.

## Install the Skill

### Add the official Skill

Install through the [Skills CLI](https://skills.sh/docs/cli):

```sh
npx skills add joacod/audiobits --skill audiobits
```

### Choose your agent and scope

Follow the CLI prompts to choose your agent and installation scope. Use the
installed location reported by the CLI or your agent's Skill inventory. The
authoritative instructions and references live in
[`skills/audiobits/`](https://github.com/joacod/audiobits/tree/main/skills/audiobits).

### Start a task in your application

Open your application project with the chosen agent and ask it to use the
AudioBits Skill. [Choose the depth](#choose-the-depth) below for an example
prompt, from a button sound to a complete interactive experience.

> **MCP is optional**
>
> Installing the Skill does not install the runtime into your application or
> register an MCP server. [Optional local MCP tooling](https://www.audiobits.dev/docs/mcp) is available for
> complex workflows, but every workflow below works with ordinary coding tools.

## Choose the depth

**Basic integration:** Ask for a small local recipe and wire it into the
application's existing UI and audio ownership. A simple confirmation sound can
use the runtime directly without installing a catalog item or controller.

> Use the AudioBits Skill to add a short confirmation sound to my Save button.
> Inspect the existing framework and installed dependencies first. Start audio
> from the click, show activation errors, provide Stop, and clean up on unmount.

**Original sound:** Describe the intended sound and the controls that matter.
The agent should inspect the installed schema and capabilities, compose
supported primitives, and validate serializable recipe data before playback.

> Use the AudioBits Skill to design a soft, glass-like notification. Give it a
> play-only intensity parameter and reproducible seeded variation. Keep it within
> my installed runtime's capabilities, validate the recipe and control extrema,
> and integrate it with my existing sound host.

**Interactive experience:** Describe how application input should shape sound,
then choose useful catalog source or an original recipe. Keep input and UI state
outside the recipe and preserve the application's entrypoint and lifecycle.

> Use the AudioBits Skill to adapt Energy Charge to my task progress indicator.
> Inspect the catalog source and install only what this integration needs. Let
> my application supply progress in either direction, reuse my audio engine, and
> handle release, cancellation, hide, and teardown. Keep my existing UI.

Try [Energy Charge](https://www.audiobits.dev/catalog/energy-charge) and
[Reactive Thruster](https://www.audiobits.dev/catalog/reactive-thruster) to explore the difference between
sound data, input controllers, and complete hosts.

## What to expect from the agent

The agent should inspect your installed `audiobits` exports, declarations,
`audiobits/schema.json`, and `audiobits/capabilities.json`. These define your
runtime's contract; the website and Skill may describe a newer version. An
existing installation should not be upgraded incidentally.

Recipes stay JSON-only. The agent validates generated or external data with
`validateRecipe`, connects only the controls you need, and keeps engine ownership
at your application's existing host boundary. Ask it to report the typecheck,
validation, and browser checks it ran, with any evidence gaps. Node validation
does not synthesize Web Audio or establish audible quality.

Use the [quick start](https://www.audiobits.dev/docs) for a minimal host and the
[runtime reference](https://www.audiobits.dev/docs/api), [recipe guide](https://www.audiobits.dev/docs/recipes), and
[lifecycle guide](https://www.audiobits.dev/docs/lifecycle) to review the result. For repeated validation
or capability comparisons in a complex task, consider [optional MCP tools](https://www.audiobits.dev/docs/mcp).
